Support for Advocates
“When the unthinkable would happen and someone was murdered anywhere in the state, Brigit would be called out, any time around the clock, to respond. Her job was to be there, often on scene, to notify victims’ families, help them grapple with what had happened, and advocate for their rights throughout the often years-long criminal justice process…. Her job was quite literally to run straight into tragedy and hold together those whose lives and hearts were broken”
Victim advocates are crucial first responders for victims of violent crime. Advocates respond to victims at all hours providing resources, reassurance, and compassion. In circumstances where victims are in danger, advocates often provide lifesaving guidance. By offering opportunities for advocates to connect with one another, further their training, and take time to re-energize and care for themselves, we aim to support them in the challenging work of serving people dealing with trauma. The Foundation will support advocates through a variety of programs such as: scholarships for national and regional conferences and training workshops ($1500), respite opportunities ($1000), providing subscriptions for online meditation apps ($70 each), gifts of Audible books ($20), and care packages. Ways to get involved include:
